Digestive difficulties are so commonplace in today’s society that we find ourselves formulating several custom herbal formulas for our patients using herbs that powerfully aid digestion and decrease inflammation.

Today, we will be covering 3 herbs that are great for decreasing any bloating, distention, gassiness, or indigestion. Watch the video below or read our corresponding blog post.

Shan Zha (Hawthorn Berry)

- These can be taken as an herbal tea. Shan Zha or Hawthorn Berry is considered one of the strongest herbs to move food stagnation.  It is especially powerful at resolving distention and gassiness from overeating meat or fatty foods.

Mai Ya (Barley)

- Mai Ya is amazing at digesting starches or carbohydrates. This is often served as the tea of choice for several Asian restaurants as it helps aid the digestion.

Chen Pi (Dried Orange Peel)

- Chen Pi can treat symptoms involving the entire digestive system. It is especially good at treating distention, nausea, or vomiting. This herb is considered a drying herb so it is also effective at treating loose stools or diarrhea.

Each of these potent herbs are great for different symptoms and most of them can be found at your local market. However, we find that these herbs are the most effective when paired with other Chinese herbs to create a specialized formula that treats and balances the body as a whole!
