One of the most important ways to create and maintain a healthier lifestyle  is to get a good nights rest. This time (known at “yin time” in Traditional Chinese Medicine) is crucial, as sleep is the time in which your body repairs itself and nourishes the entire body. Sadly, the majority of people in this country report that they suffer from insomnia. Whether they are having a difficult time falling asleep or staying asleep, the lack of a good nights rest negatively impacts every other aspect of our health and the quality of our days and lives.

With so many people having sleep issues, a number of patients taking prescription medications have sky rocketed. These medications seem to offer patients some relief in the beginning, but over time they start to develop other symptoms from the medication and find that their insomnia comes back even while taking the medications.

Acupuncture treatments have been outperforming drug therapies in treatments for insomnia. Research conducted at the Hangzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine compared the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture to Estazolam (a commonly used prescription medication to treat insomnia). They concluded that regular acupuncture treatments were more effective than the medication. The acupuncture treatments were shown to improve sleep duration, the quality of the sleep, reduce the occurrence of insomnia due to depression, and to improve a person’s overall daytime abilities.

Auricular Acupuncture, also known as Ear Acupuncture is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) where the ear is a microorganism for the entire body. By stimulating specific acupuncture points on the ear, the body will begin to regulate internal organs, structures, and functions. Stimulation can be done with needles or with ear seeds depending on your personal preference.
