What is Insomnia?

Insomnia is more than just difficulty falling asleep—it can mean waking up too early, waking up throughout the night, or feeling unrefreshed after a full night’s sleep. Some common causes of insomnia include:

  • Stress & Anxiety: Overactive mind, emotional unrest

  • Pain & Discomfort: Chronic aches or muscle tension

  • Hormonal Imbalances: Changes related to menopause, thyroid issues, or other hormonal shifts

  • Lifestyle Factors: Poor diet, excessive screen time, or irregular sleep habits

While medications can sometimes help in the short term, they don’t address the root cause, and they often come with side effects. That’s where Traditional Chinese Medicine comes in.

How Acupuncture Helps With Insomnia:

Acupuncture is one of the most powerful tools in TCM for treating insomnia. By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture promotes the smooth flow of Qi, restores balance, and addresses underlying issues causing sleep problems.

  • Calming the Mind: Acupuncture can reduce anxiety and stress by regulating the nervous system, helping to calm the overactive mind that often interferes with sleep.

  • Balancing Yin & Yang: If you’re struggling with hot flashes, night sweats, or a restless mind at night, acupuncture can help balance your Yin and Yang, restoring harmony to your body’s natural cycles.

  • Improving Blood Circulation: Proper blood flow is essential for a restful night’s sleep. Acupuncture helps improve circulation, which can reduce discomfort and promote relaxation.

  • Regulating Hormones: Acupuncture can also influence hormonal balance, especially when sleep disturbances are related to menopause, thyroid imbalances, or stress.

In addition to acupuncture, there are other TCM practices that can support your journey to better sleep

My experience in having acupuncture with Zen has been amazing… After having a bad experience with acupuncture with someone else, I never wanted to try acupuncture again!
Being that I’m not a found of oral medications and hearing all the positive results people were having with Zen, I decided to give it one more try. Zen made me feel so comfortable and was constantly asking about my comfort level with the needles she was placing on my body. The results have been amazing; my sleeping disorder has changed drastically since my first session. Zen is currently treating me for Achilles Tendonitis of my both feet; and man – let me tell you, if you know what Achilles Tendonitis is, you know the unbearable pain I’m talking about. After my 2nd session I started noticing the difference, and I can’t thank Zen enough for helping me with this chronic pain and swelling. Not to mention weight control and other minor issues she recently started treating…. Did I mention, how relaxing and restful you will feel after acupuncture? Trust me, you will thank yourself for giving it a try & then you will thank Zen for the amazing treatment and care she puts into each of her clients…. Thank you Zen     – KL  – 9/22/2015
