As a Pasadena acupuncturist, I’m constantly exploring ways to help my patients achieve optimal health and well-being. One fascinating avenue that’s increasingly capturing attention is the world of fasting. My own journey into fasting began with a simple curiosity. To ease myself in, I turned to intermittent fasting, gradually increasing my daily fasting window while being mindful of my menstrual cycle. This, I learned from the insightful “How to Fast Like a Woman” by Mindy Pelz, is crucial for women to avoid hormonal imbalances and metabolic disruptions.

 

The initial challenges of conquering hunger pangs were real, but the rewards were equally tangible. As my body transitioned into ketosis, a sense of invigorating energy washed over me. My mind sharpened, my focus intensified, and a newfound euphoria fueled my productivity. The hunger faded, replaced by a feeling of empowerment and control over my own body.

Mastering 17-hour fasts emboldened me to push further, leading me to a 24-hour water fast. It wasn’t a breeze, but the key was simple – mindful planning and respect for my body’s rhythms. This experience, along with research highlighting the diverse benefits of various fasting durations, ignited a passion to delve deeper.

My curiosity landed me at the doorstep of Prolon, a 5-day fasting mimicking program that promised cellular-level renewal through minimal nutrients and pre-portioned meals. The journey through Prolon was an adventure in itself, with its own set of challenges and triumphs.
