Tinnitus Testimonials
Tinnitus is the perception of noise or ringing in the ears. A common problem, tinnitus affects about 15 to 20 percent of people. Tinnitus isn’t a condition itself — it’s a symptom of an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, ear injury or a circulatory system disorder. Acupuncture has shown to be helpful in reducing the loudness and severity in tinnitus!
How Acupuncture Addresses Tinnitus
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), tinnitus may stem from imbalances in the Kidney and Liver meridians, stagnant “Qi” (vital energy), or excess internal heat. By inserting fine, sterile needles at carefully selected points, acupuncture works to rebalance these systems, improve blood circulation to the inner ear, and calm the overactive nerve pathways that may be sending false sound signals. Modern research suggests acupuncture can also influence the autonomic nervous system, helping decrease the stress and anxiety that often make tinnitus worse.
Common Treatment Points
Acupuncturists frequently use points around the ear—such as SJ17 (Yifeng) and GB2 (Tinghui)—to enhance local blood flow and ease ear pressure. Supporting points like KD3 on the ankle or LV3 on the foot help nourish the Kidney and Liver systems, while calming points such as Yintang between the eyebrows reduce tension and promote relaxation.
Whole Body Benefits
Because acupuncture treats the entire system, patients often report better sleep, reduced stress, and improved energy levels alongside quieter ears. Your practitioner may also recommend lifestyle adjustments or herbal formulas to reinforce results and address any underlying imbalances.
What to Expect
A typical session lasts 30–45 minutes. Most people feel little more than a slight pinch as the hair-thin needles are inserted, followed by a sense of warmth or gentle tingling. Many patients notice subtle improvements after a few treatments, while chronic cases often benefit from a series of weekly sessions.
I have chronic tinnitus and was looking for some relief. I’ve seen all the ear specialists, ENT’s at The House Ear Institute. My ENT finally recommended Acupuncture. I was skeptical at first, but Zen is amazing. After several visits my tinnitus was reduced dramatically. In addition, she addressed some other issues I was having simultaneously! Zen takes a loving and caring approach to bridge the gap between east/west medicines. She has been very helpful in reducing my problem and in some cases, healing completely my aliment. I highly recommend Zen! – Rob. L. – 10/24/2017 – Yelp Review #31

In January I began to notice a ringing in my ears. I first consulted with my GP who basically told me, it’s what happens when you get older, you probably went to too many concerts and you just have to live with it. Completely unsatisfied, I seeked out an alternative and found myself at Healing with Zen. From the beginning, Katherine, my acupuncturist, was completely empathetic. She took the time to help me understand how acupuncture works not just to alleviate my issue but to really help my entire system come back into balance. There were benefits to my treatment that I didn’t expect. (Better sleep, body temp regulation). But most importantly Katherine (and Zen) were able to significantly reduce the ringing. I would highly recommend Healing with Zen to anyone looking for an alternative to a strictly western diagnosis. – Michael B. – 5/2/2017 – Yelp Review #28
I love Healing with Zen! I was new to acupuncture when I began last year for tinnitus. Krystal and the rest of the staff had made it so easy to get adjusted, and the obvious improvements in my symptoms have truly increased my quality of life. I appreciate that they invest in the community in many holistic ways. Highly recommend HWZ! – Julie B. 4/7/25 Yelp review
